Newsletter for Friday 19th September 2014

Friday has come around again so soon! Thank you everyone for making our Book Week so enjoyable and successful! Please see Class Pages for more news from your child's class. All of our pages are slowly being updated so do have a wander around the website. We would value your feedback as well.

Breakfast Club

Our provision of Breakfast Club is going from strength to strength with Mrs Wattley and Miss Beer needing to add yet another table to the Big Breakfast this morning! There is a wonderful happy atmosphere around the table following 20 mins of enjoyable activities and exercise in the playground from 8.00 a.m.

If you are considering using our Breakfast Club our charge is for £1.50 per child, £1.00 for second children. Please place your payments in the envelopes provided and ensure that you are able to pay up front as this helps with our current purchasing for food, juice etc.

A typical breakfast choice will be fruit juice, milk, cereals, crumpets or muffins etc., along with wonderful company!

School Lunches

These are also proving very popular. This time last year we averaged 40 meals per day. Today Mrs Guymer cooked for 96! With over 400 meals this week. What a resounding success!

If you would like to come in and have a school dinner, meat or vegetarian, or a picnic box with your child, please book a dinner with Mrs Woo in the school office. The cost is only £2.10 and is free for all children up to the end of Year 2 and any pupils eligible for Pupil Premium from Year 3 to Year 6.

Pupil Premium

Please read through the paper copies sent home today of the DfE's Pupil Premium applications. One side explains how your family may qualify and the other side is the form to complete and return to Mrs Woo in the school office.

Because the DfE has introduced free school meals for all KS1 children from this month some families think they they don't also need to complete the Pupil Premium form. We cannot underestimate how important this form is. You may not be requiring FSM now, but your child can qualify for extra funding via the school even if you applied for FSM over any time in the past six years, so please take up the opportunity.

Any questions please come and speak to me.

Election of new House Groups Captains and Vice Captains!

Congratulations to those pupils who campaigned and were elected in these important roles. See House Groups pages for more news over the terms ahead.

This position carries respect and responsibility and I look forward to working with you all this year.

To other pupils in Year 6, your valuable role as our eldest pupils matters to us in school. You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of other roles, such as Eco Warriors or School Council Representatives. More news to follow...

Harvest Festival - Friday 26th September

Please come along and join us for Harvest Festival in St John's Church at 2.00 p.m.

Any contributions of non-perishable foodstuffs will be gratefully received on Friday morning to school. These will be redistributed to North Devon's Harbour homeless project.

Reverend Keith will lead our service, with our school children taking an active role and hopefully performing one or two songs for us! The theme this year is how our food gets to our tables, to recognise the role of growers, transporters, shopkeepers etc.

Mr Martin will be running a Wednesday football coaching session to prepare us for a new Instow team!

Mrs Martin will be able to set up Choir / Glee once she has settled into her new teaching role.

In the meantime, have a relaxing weekend and hopefully the sun will remain with us for a little while longer!

All the best,

Mrs Knight x
