Class 3 Hartland
We had a super time at Forrest School this week!
Science - Plants.
In Science this week we looked at water transportation and the route it takes into and back out of plants. We also ate and dissected sugar snap peas that were grown in our school garden. A tasty learning experience!

Science Light and Reflection - Book Bag designs

Class 3 designed and made reflective book bags. The children explored a range of materials and selected those in which they thought would help meet the design brief (as well as look good!). The brief was to design a book bag for a child who has to walk on a country lane, when it's getting dark, in order to get home. There are cars that sometimes go along that road so they will need some level of reflection in their book bag to keep them safe.

A huge welcome back to Class 3 in 2022! Well done for all your hard work last term. We will kick things off with a little video of a special letter that arrived on the last day of term in 2021. Previously, we have studied Marcus Rashford and we had sent off all of our classes letters to Machester United's training complex for him...Great news, we had a reply! It was hand written from Marcus Rashford mum (who handles a lot of his fan mail). The letter was handwritten with a thank you note from Melanie Maynard (Rashford's mum) and a stick on Rashford signature for us, which we copied and gave to every child. Please follow the link to enjoy their reactions to the news.

Class 3 Coding in PE

What is coding? Coding, sometimes called computer programming, is how we communicate with computers. Code tells a computer what actions to take, and writing code is like creating a set of instructions. By learning to write code, you can tell computers what to do or how to behave in a much faster way. You can use this skill to make websites and apps, process data, and do lots of other cool things.

November 2021
Class 3 have finally sent off their letters to Manchester United, hopefully they will arrive at Carrington Training Facility any day... We studied Marcus Rashford and did all types of different Literacy work based on him and following on from 'The Invisible' story. We will keep you posted IF or WHEN we receive a response.
October 2021
Class 3 needed to use logistical skills as well as muscle power as we helped load the generous food donations from our school community. As you can see it all had to fit in a modest sized car but the children did a great job of making sure the food was packed in carefully so as not to damage the products. The Harbour Community organisation helps provide food for homeless people as well as those falling on hard times, so the children were more than happy to help with the final loading of these important packages. This event really resonated with the children as we have been recently writing letters to Marcus Rashford, having learned all about how he 'makes a difference' in his own community as well as his wider charity work...which of course is heavily involved with providing food for those who need it most. Well done everyone!

We enjoyed a great live stream with former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq this week. She discussed a range of things including her new book series 'Cookie', the environment, science and fun facts. We worked on our speed drawing skills in a live 'draw along' session with Konnie as we sketched to create some of the characters from her book series.

Lee Abbey 2021
A fantastic well done to all Year 3 and 4 children that attended the Lee Abbey residential. We had great adventures, super food, made memories, challenged ourselves and had lots of laughs on the way. To find out more about this residential, ask the children they will all have an exciting story to tell.

September 2021
A warm welcome to children and parents of Hartland Class.
This week some have been getting used to their new surroundings in Class 3 whilst others have been back for another year in familiar settings! We have had a busy but super first week back.
Children have been getting to know 'The Invisible' story by Tom Percival and we have been discussing poverty, things to be grateful for as well as looking into what making a difference could look like.
In maths we've been looking into number sense and discussing patterns and some of the things we've noticed with certain sets of numbers. We have a sneak peak of this in the videos below as well as some awesome observations from Riaaz (until the memory on the ipad was too full, sorry Riaaz).
In PE this week we have started our rugby unit by practicing our handling skills with lots of passing and receiving, with a few sneaky interceptions from Mr Bedford too! Stay tuned for some of our rugby training videos. Oh...and of course...having a further test of some of our new active playground equipment as well!

Swimming begins
A huge well done to all the Year 3 and 4 swimmers this week. It was our first week and there were lots of new routines to get used to. After an exciting coach journey (we haven't been on a coach for a while), the children made there way to pool side. This week was all about grouping, this is when children swim and are then put in groups roughly based on their swimming ability and water confidence. We had a great time and will look forward to more pool time in our groups next week. Special well done to the children, they remembered the golden rule of swimming lessons...don't forget your pants!
