Special Educational Needs
At Instow Community Primary and Pre-School, we are committed to ensuring that every child receives the support they need to succeed. As a mainstream primary school with an attached governor-run pre-school, we educate 135 children and are dedicated to providing an inclusive environment in which all pupils can thrive.
We will do our utmost to make the necessary provision for any pupil with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Our aim is to ensure that all staff are able to identify SEND needs early and respond effectively, removing barriers to learning and promoting full participation in school life.
We are committed to supporting children and young people to prepare for adulthood by helping them to develop the skills, confidence and independence they need for the future. We work to ensure that all pupils with SEND are able to reach their full potential, feel included within our school community and make successful transitions between settings.
Our SEND Policy and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo) support all staff in adopting positive, whole-school approaches to the progress, achievement and wellbeing of pupils with SEND. We believe that:
-
All teachers are teachers of special educational needs (SEND Code Of Practice 2015).
-
Every teacher is responsible and accountable for the progress and development of all pupils in their class, including those who receive additional support from teaching assistants or specialist staff.
-
Supporting pupils with SEND is a whole-school responsibility and requires a shared commitment from pupils, parents and carers, staff, children’s services, other professionals and the Local Authority.
We value partnership working and strive to ensure that every child is supported to achieve, belong and succeed.
Our SENDCo is Toni Gillard; she can be contacted through the school office,

Devon Children and Families Partnership https://www.dcfp.org.uk/early-help/
Early Help is the extra support your family can get if you need it. It may be that you want to prevent a problem, or change things for your family before the problem becomes more serious. It is not a specific service or team, it’s an approach that brings together people from a range of services and teams who will work together with your whole family to help improve the situation for everyone.
